In Literature, it has been stated that the notion of performance is articulated together with creation of presence. I intend to explore and deepen in this constitutive and essential concept. This defense of presence defies a widely rooted concept in some social theories and perspectives in the Area of Humanities, according to which interpretation -identification and attribution of meaning- must be its central practice, or even its exclusive right. From classic examples of iconoclasm, I am interested in emphazising how effect-of-presence and effect-of-meaning interweave.
