Abstract

REYES GOMEZ, Laureano  and  VAZQUEZ PALACIOS, Felipe Roboam. The oldness in Mexican native population. Alteridades [online]. 2022, vol.32, n.64, pp.99-109.  Epub Feb 20, 2023. ISSN 2448-850X.  https://doi.org/10.24275/uam/izt/dcsh/alteridades/2022v32n64/reyes.

In this article the concept of oldness for analysis of old age in indigenous contexts is proposed. Based on a qualitative study of gerontological information in native populations, theoretical elements to perform such an analysis are provided, from a perspective that implies gains as mush as looses regarding old age. The proposal includes the self-care of individuals as a fundamental part of the process of aging, searching for a more dignified and participative old age, turning adversity into resilience.

Keywords : resilience; old age; indigenous; self-care.
