Abstract
VARELA LLAMAS, Rogelio; OCEGUEDA HERNANDEZ, Juan Manuel and CASTILLO PONCE, Ramón A.. Migración interna en México y causas de su movilidad. Perf. latinoam. [online]. 2017, vol.25, n.49, pp.141-167. ISSN 0188-7653. https://doi.org/10.18504/pl2549-007-2017.
This paper presents an analysis of internal migration in Mexico. Using micro data from the National Survey on Occupation and Employment (ENOE), we estimate a multinomial logit model for the case of intrastate and interstate migration. We also conduct estimations for municipalities of different sizes. The results suggest that the probability of migrating increases with the number of weeks spent searching for a job, regardless of whether the search is conducted while the individual is employed or unemployed. In addition, we find that as the number of hours of work per week increases, the probability of migrating rises. The search process does not increase the probability of migrating in rural communities as it does in urban centers.
