Abstract

SANCHEZ MEDERO, Gema. Digital technologies and regeneration democratic in Spanish and Mexican political parties. Perf. latinoam. [online]. 2019, vol.27, n.54, 00008. ISSN 0188-7653.  https://doi.org/10.18504/pl2754-008-2019.

The political disaffection, the economic crisis, and digital technologies have transformed the political scene. As a consequence, from it different formulas are being constructed to shape popular candidatures that efficiently pick up the citizen’s general discomfort, and where the electorate is able to find room to increase their actual participation in political decisions. This is forcing the old political party structures to find and adopt new ways to obtain a “political regeneration” to try to allure those citizens, and to mitigate this political disaffection. For this reason, in this paper we will address the measures that are being taken by the political parties in order to create a democratic regeneration through digital technologies. This will allow us to explain which are those measures and which parties are adopting them and why, as well as the range they have according to their purpose.

Keywords : democratic regeneration; political parties; citizen participation; digital technologies.
