Abstract

PATROUILLEAU, María Mercedes. Narrative shapes of populism: a research method. Perf. latinoam. [online]. 2021, vol.29, n.57, pp.385-408.  Epub Sep 06, 2021. ISSN 0188-7653.  https://doi.org/10.18504/pl2957-015-2021.

This paper proposes a method for analyzing populist discourses, with emphasis on the narrative dimension: narrative layered analysis. This method was built by integrating post-structuralist theories, concepts of narratology, literary theory and the contribution of Causal Layered Analysis. The method is based on narratological premises, which establish the layers of analysis on narrative sequence, chronotopo, myths and narrative voices, from which it is possible to analyze a diversity of discursive corpus and to contribute new elements for the understanding of populist experiences in Latin America.

Keywords : populism; discourse; storytelling; in-depth narrative analysis; futures studies; Causal Layered Analysis.
