Abstract

VAZQUEZ GARCIA, Verónica; OJEDA GUTIERREZ, Dann  and  PENA GODINEZ, Eusebio. Gender, extractivism and defense of the territory in the Soconusco, Chiapas. Perf. latinoam. [online]. 2023, vol.31, n.62, 001.  Epub May 31, 2023. ISSN 0188-7653.  https://doi.org/10.18504/pl3162-001-2023.

This paper analyzes the socioenvironmental conflict caused by titanium mining in Chiapas from a gender perspective. The paper has two objectives: 1) to identify the main mobilized actors, 2) to analyze to what extent the conflict allowed for the transformation of gender relations. Data were obtained through the review of secondary sources, interviews and workshops. It is concluded that the factors that determine the role that each actor plays in the defense of the territory are gender and generation, and that the mobilizations did not contribute to women’s emancipation.

Keywords : gender; mining; socioenvironmental conflict; water; health; ejido.
