Abstract

OROZCO LOPEZ, Efrén  and  LORENZEN, Matthew. The Geoparque Mundial UNESCO Mixteca Alta (GMA) as a space for the construction and implementation of participative methodologies. Perf. latinoam. [online]. 2023, vol.31, n.62, 010.  Epub May 31, 2024. ISSN 0188-7653.  https://doi.org/10.18504/pl3162-010-2023.

This paper starts by offering a general perspective on participatory epistemologies and methodologies developed in Latin America during the second half of the twentieth century. In this context, we position the assembly as a space for the construction and implementation of participatory methodologies to build knowledge focused on territorial care. The Geoparque Mundial UNESCO Mixteca Alta, located in Oaxaca, Mexico, is presented as a case study. The results show how to build a structure for territorial appropriation benefitting residents. The conclusions underline the importance of the design and implementation of participatory research processes according to two analytical levels dealing with epistemology and methodology.

Keywords : geopark; assembly; indigenous peoples; political organization; territory; environment.
