Abstract

CROVARA, María Eugenia. Pobreza y estigma en una villa miseria argentina. Polít. cult. [online]. 2004, n.22, pp.29-45. ISSN 0188-7742.

An answer is sought to how the terms of the poverty/stigma equation come together in connection with the effects that the perception by "others" has on the veryday lives of the inhabitants of the Argentine villa miseria of Villa Corina during the 1990s. The city is conceived as a fabric of spaces, relations, and imaginaria, and so studying it requires taking into account the social meaning of neighborhoods, the relations between status and prestige, and the place where one lives. The villa miseria is a phenomenon of urban living, and so its perceptions are also covered by this paper.

Keywords : poverty; stigma; villa miseria; Argentina; neighborhood.
