Abstract

CASTRO NEIRA, Yerko. Teoría transnacional: revisitando la comunidad de los antropólogos. Polít. cult. [online]. 2005, n.23, pp.181-194. ISSN 0188-7742.

This paper presents some theoretical and conceptual aspects of transnational theory, intense development of which began in the 1990s to explain the migration phenomenon that existed between Mexico and the United States. Based on ethnographic work among Mixtec communities in Oaxaca, the text documents a number of debates that are central to this theory. Although there are disagreements and conflicts within this theory, the paper attempts to propose a way in which to understand the contemporary international migration phenomenon among indigenous people through the lens of critical studies of globalization.

Keywords : Transnational communities; indigenous migration; Mixtecs; globalization; nation-state.
