Abstract

PARRA, José Francisco. Liberalismo: nuevo institucionalismo y cambio político. Polít. cult. [online]. 2005, n.24, pp.31-61. ISSN 0188-7742.

Liberalism has been important for political science, given that it has shaped theoretical ways of thinking and methodological models that explain decision-making processes in a political system. In that sense, neoinstitutionalism is the recurring tool used to explain change in and permanence of political institutions by means of its two main propositions: one that is based on norms and regulations, and another one based on rational choice. This paper features a theoretical analysis whose aim is to reclaim a multiparty neoinstitutionalism as an alternative pathway

Keywords : liberalism; new institutionalism; rational choice; institutional change; political reform.
