Abstract

FERNANDEZ MONTES, Jorge Octavio. Voces y llamamientos de la cultura por la paz: Génesis del pacifismo prosoviético de México en los albores de la Guerra Fría. Polít. cult. [online]. 2014, n.41, pp.7-29. ISSN 0188-7742.

This study seeks to answer why at the end of the 40s and the beginning of the 50s, some works developed by Mexican writers and plastic artists incorporated peace-related and against atomic bomb-related symbols. It explains that left-wing activists, from which writers and plastic artists stood out, supported the international pacifist movement as they saw in it a new platform for action against inequality, injustice and foreign interference in the internal affairs of the Mexican state. Plastic artists and writers that sympathized with the pacifist cause not only used culture as a tool to push on the movement in Mexico, but also as a means to continue with their struggle for a fair and egalitarian political, economic and social order.

Keywords : Cold war; Mexican pacifist movement; culture; peace; intellectuals.
