Abstract

CARMONA, Roberto  and  DANEMANN, Gustavo. Distribución espacio-temporal de aves Pelecaniformes en la salina de Guerrero Negro, B. C. S., México. Hidrobiológica [online]. 2000, vol.10, n.2, pp.85-90. ISSN 0188-8897.

This paper reports the temporal abundances of four species of Pelecaniforms (White Pelican, Pelecanus erythrorhynchos; Brown Pelican, P. occidentalis; Double-crested Cormorant Phalacrocorax auritus; and Brandt's Cormorant, Ph. penicillatus in the Guerrero Negro saltworks (Baja California Sur, Mexico), along an anual cycle. The first is considered a migratory species, while the remaining three establish breeding colonies and remain in the area year round. The most abundant was Ph. auritus (1,806 birds/census), followed by P. erythrorhynchos (156), P. occidentalis (147), and saltworks, the preferred areas were those of low salinity, with the exception of those used as roosting sites. Results suggest this as an important area for the post-breeding dispersion, pass and feeding of these species.
