Abstract

OBJECTIVE:

To determine the prevalence and clinical characteristics of patients with dual incontinence.

MATERIALS AND METHODS:

Observational, descriptive, cross-sectional and ambilective study conducted at the Hospital de Ginecoobstetricia 3 of the Centro Médico Nacional La Raza, Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social from January 1, 2017 to January 1, 2018. Inclusion criteria: Patients diagnosed with urinary incontinence. Exclusion criteria: Incomplete clinical record. Study parameters: age, obstetric history, comorbidities and magnitude of incontinence (Distress Inventory Scale; UDI-6). Central tendency and dispersion measures, frequencies and proportions were calculated with the SPSS statistical package version 20.0.

RESULTS:

775 patients were studied of which 21 (2.7%) had dual incontinence. Average age was 63.0 ± 10.9 years, the most frequent was between 66 and 70 (6 of 21 patients). The most frequent number of pregnancies was 3 (7 of 21), and 18 of 21 had had at least one dystocia. The most frequent comorbidity was diabetes (7 of 21). According to the Distress Inventory Scale (UDI-6) the most common form was moderate (10 of 21), followed by severe (9 of 21).

CONCLUSIONS:

The frequency of dual incontinence was 2.7%. Multiparity and history of dystocia, diabetes, and moderate and severe forms were the most common.
