Abstract

RAMIREZ-ORDONEZ, Olga et al. Expression profile of four miRNAs in the serum of patients with endometriosis development. Ginecol. obstet. Méx. [online]. 2021, vol.89, n.3, pp.194-203.  Epub Feb 11, 2022. ISSN 0300-9041.  https://doi.org/10.24245/gom.v89i3.4818.

OBJECTIVE:

To determine the expression profile of hsa-miR-21, -141, 200b, and -210 in the serum of patients with endometriosis.

MATERIALS AND METHODS:

Analytical, longitudinal, and prolective study carried out in 21 patients who attended the Assisted Reproduction Clinic of the National Institute of Perinatology “Isidro Espinosa de los Reyes” of Mexico City between February 2018 and August 2019. The inclusion criteria were: patients without and with a diagnosis of endometriosis confirmed by laparoscopy. Five milliliters of blood were taken from each one to obtain serum and the patients with endometriosis were reprogrammed to perform electrofulguration and a week later, 5 mL of blood was taken again. The total RNA was extracted from the serum and the expression of the miRNAs was carried out by means of the reverse transcription assay (RT), and the polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The expression band was determined the optical density. Statistical analysis was performed using the t-Student test and the value of p <0.05 was considered significant.

RESULTS:

The hsa-mirR-21 and miR-200b were significantly increased in patients with endometriosis. In patients with electrofulguration, they showed a significant decrease in the expression of hsa-miRNA-21 (p = 0.002), -141 (p = 0.03), and -210 (p = 0.009) with respect to patients who did not the elecrofulguration procedure was performed.

CONCLUSIONS:

The expression of hsa-miR-21 and hsa-miR-200b increased in patients with endometriosis, suggesting their use as biomarkers.
