CALLE-RAMIREZ, Angélica María; RAMIREZ-GONZALEZ,, Beatriz  and  QUIROS-GOMEZ, Oscar Iván. Maternal Near Miss Morbidity in nationals and immigrants, treated in a hospital institution, Colombia, 2017-2020. Ginecol. obstet. Méx. [online]. 2022, vol.90, n.1, pp.21-31.  Epub May 30, 2022. OBJECTIVE:

To determine the profiles of extreme maternal morbidity according to the clinical and sociodemographic conditions of Colombian and Venezuelan patients.

MATERIALS AND METHODS:

Observational, cross-sectional, retrospective study with analytical intent of association. Pregnant women with a diagnosis of extreme maternal morbidity attended between January 2017 and June 2020 at the Manuel Uribe Ángel Hospital in Envigado, Antioquia, Colombia were included. To determine the profiles, sociodemographic and clinical characteristics were analyzed by means of categorical principal component analysis, multivariate technique of interdependence data.

RESULTS:

We studied 300 Colombian and 29 Venezuelan pregnant women, both with a diagnosis of morbidity and average age of 27 years and 26 years for the latter. Fifty-one-point seven percent (n = 155) of the Colombian women and 17 of 29 Venezuelan women had a history of pregnancy, 15% and 5 of 17 had a history of extreme maternal morbidity, respectively. The most prevalent comorbidities in the Colombian women were diabetes, hypothyroidism, HIV, syphilis, obesity, and psychoactive substance use. Venezuelan women had more cases of arterial hypertension.

CONCLUSIONS:

The profiles of Colombian patients with extreme maternal morbidity were shaped by maternal health characteristics and those of Venezuelan patients by sociodemographic conditions and comorbidities.
