Abstract

The birth of development of research in organic chemistry at the National School of Biological Sciences during the twentieth century is briefly described. Some relevant events are outlined such as the foundation in 1981 of the graduate studies program in Bioorganic Chemistry, and the strengthening of the faculty in the last decade. A description of the main research achievements is also presented.
