A free energy study for a serie of 1,3-dithianes whith an aromatic substituent in position two was carried out. Applying the McLafferty equation to the corresponding mass spectra data, a lineal correlation was observed; thus the effect of the substituent over the fragment stability of [M-74 ]+· was demonstrated.
