Nicardipine and five new analogues were synthesized and evaluated for their smooth muscle relaxing actitity. All the compounds displayed significant relaxant activity and the m-bromophenyl derivative was the most potent; the order of potency for the complete set of derivatives were: m-Br > m-NO₂ (nicardipine) > m-Cl ≈ m-F > m-CH₃ ≈ m-OCH₃.
