Abstract
CANIPA-MORALES, Nora K.; GALAN-VIDAL, Carlos A.; PEREZ-ORTIZ, José A. and GUZMAN-VEGA, Mario A.. Clasificación de petróleos mexicanos mediante cromatografía de gases y análisis de componentes principales. Rev. Soc. Quím. Méx [online]. 2003, vol.47, n.3, pp.275-282. ISSN 0583-7693.
In this paper, the traditional method applied for crude oil characterization and classification studies based on the C7 hydrocarbons, was evaluated. With this aim, a chromatographic data set of 43 oil samples collected from three important productive areas of crude oils in Mexico, was used. We found that this method does not clearly classify into three groups the considered Mexican oils. Therefore, we set forth the use of a new star diagram developed specifically for Mexican crude oils on the basis of the five most typical and representative parameters identified by principal component analysis (ethylcyclopentane, 3-ethylpentane, 3,3-dimethylpentane, 2,2,3-trimethylbutane and toluene).
Keywords : Crude oils correlation; gas chromatography; principal component analysis.
