Abstract

REYES ZAMORANO, Jesús. Laparoscopic manegement of secundary gastric volvulus. Report of 3 cases and review of literature. Cir. gen [online]. 2014, vol.36, n.2, pp.96-102. ISSN 1405-0099.

Introduction: Gastric volvulus (GV) can be classified according to etiology as primary or secondary, to anatomy as organoaxial or mesenteroaxial, and to onset as acute or chronic. The majority of cases are secondary and organoaxial, usually for a paraesphageal hiatal hernia, but also as a complication of a variety of surgical procedures, including Nissen fundoplication.

Case Report: Three cases of secondary GV resolved by laparoscopy are presented, one an intrathoracic GV, organoaxial, due to a paraesophagic hernia and tow intrabdominal GV acute and mesenteroaxial after laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication.

Conclusion: Management of secondary GV acute or chronic is always with surgery and the choice of surgical procedure for treatment should be done according to etiology. The laparoscopic approach is safe with or without gastropexy always correcting the underlying mechanisms that cause GV (diaphragmatic defects, adherence or foreign bodies).
