Abstract

FLORES-GALVAN, Karla Patricia; ACEVES QUINTERO, Claudia A  and  GUZMAN VALDIVIA-GOMEZ, Gilberto. Fournier’s gangrene. Cir. gen [online]. 2021, vol.43, n.2, pp.107-114.  Epub Dec 05, 2022. ISSN 1405-0099.  https://doi.org/10.35366/106721.

Fournier’s gangrene is a rare and life-threatening urological emergency, which consists in a necrotizing fasciitis of the external genitalia, perineal and/or perianal regions. Frequently stems from an infection of the anorectal region, it progresses rapidly and has a mortality rate of 40% even with treatment. The treatment for Fournier’s gangrene should include emergency surgical intervention (complete debridement of devitalized tissue), combined with specific antibiotic therapy.

Keywords : Fournier’s gangrene; necrotizing fasciitis; debridement.
