Mexico performed 1,136 kidney and liver transplants from deceased donors during 2019. As a result of the pandemic caused by the SARS-CoV-2 disease (COVID-19), as of March 2020, all donation and transplantation programs were temporarily suspended. Organ procurement dropped 94% during the second and third quarters of the year. Transplants solve public health problems and are considered priority programs. Associated with a decrease in hospital admissions and occupancy, in June the National Transplant Center (CENATRA) publishes the plan to reactivate them. In which screening measures such as reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and chest tomography (CT) for all potential donors are mandatory. We will describe in this article the time needed and the feasibility of executing these screening methods in a clinical case in Yucatán, as well as a review of the surgical technique for harvesting surgery.
