Abstract

MARTINEZ-MEJORADA, Roberto; RAMIREZ-GUERRERO, Oliver René; LOPEZ-ROMERO, Sandra Cecilia  and  GRACIDA-MANCILLA, Noé Isaías. Polyhexamethylene biguanide dressings on the treatment of a wound. Case report. Cir. gen [online]. 2022, vol.44, n.1, pp.29-33.  Epub Aug 25, 2023. ISSN 1405-0099.  https://doi.org/10.35366/109316.

The diabetic foot has become one of the most important chronic complications of diabetes. One of the treatments that has not yet been systematized is the use of polyhexamethylene biguanide dressings because their use in the treatment of wounds is recent. We present the case of a patient with an extensive wound on the stump of the pelvic limb which was managed with polyohexa methyl biguanide dressings, presenting complete closure in 11 weeks without the need for surgery. Currently there is little scientific evidence about the impact of these dressings in the treatment of wounds caused by complications of diabetes, however their use routinely could be satisfactory in the closure of chronic wounds, as shown in this case.

Keywords : polyhexamethylene biguanide; wound dressings; chronic wound; diabetic foot.
