Abstract

DIMITRIU, Cristian. The Ethics of Default: Why Some Debts Are Not Binding on Current Generations. Isonomía [online]. 2014, n.41, pp.119-139. ISSN 1405-0218.

In this article I argue that many debtor countries are morally entitled to default on a big portion of their sovereign debts. I will do this by showing that exceptions to the general claim that governments have the obligation to repay debts incurred by past governments should be made.

Keywords : Global justice; debt default; intergenerational justice; private law; international finance.
