Abstract

MENDIOLA, Alfonso. The Detective Novel by Siegfried Kracauer as a critique of the scientific reason. Hist. graf [online]. 2011, n.36, pp.41-77. ISSN 1405-0927.

In this investigation about Siegfried Kracauer's thinking, we study The detective novel (1922-1923). We show how Kracauer's initial work is in fact a programmatic text that serves to develop his future thinking. In his novel, he connects popular culture (detective novels) with the critique of modern scientific rationality. This critique is a creative application of the symbol concept from the Critique of Judgment by Kant.

Keywords : Kracauer; Adorno; detective novel; rationality; modernity; symbol.
