Abstract

MIER GARZA, Raymundo. Image, Narrative, and Memory: Cinema and Alternative Historiographies. Hist. graf [online]. 2012, n.39, pp.13-43. ISSN 1405-0927.

The present paper examines the relationship between film and history. It proposes to challenge traditional historiography by analyzing the structure and composition of the art of film seeing this as a distinct referential regime, in which the written word often complements and elevates the visual image. The construction of a narrative, the cinematic composition or assembly, understood as articulations of a series of moments that constitute the "act of cinematography," permits films to explore other facets of the testimonials (historical evidence). Examining film as a historical genre raise historiographical and epistemological questions that are addressed in this work.

Keywords : cinema; historicity.
