Abstract

GONZALEZ LEON, Erika. Our Lady of Loreto from San Miguel el Grande. Between Art, Patronage and Devotion. Hist. graf [online]. 2018, n.51, pp.123-147. ISSN 1405-0927.

The devotion of Our Lady of Loreto was driven in New Spain by several religious associations, including the Congregation of the Oratory of St. Philip Neri, whom decided to support count Manuel de la Canal Bueno de Baeza to erect a Sanctuary dedicated to Holy House of Loreto in San Miguel el Grande city. This paper will present the story of the founding of the chapel, as well as a description of the space and the modifications suffered during the nineteenth century, and the iconographic features of devotion and efforts of different characters to spread this cult through engravings, stamps, paintings and sculptures that represent the Virgin of Loreto.

Keywords : Virgin of Loreto; New Spain; Saint Philip Neri.
