Abstract

NAVA MURCIA, Ricardo. Archive and Alterity: The “Other” as the Spectral of Historiography. Hist. graf [online]. 2019, n.53, pp.79-107.  Epub Dec 10, 2019. ISSN 1405-0927.

When framed in regard to the question of alterity, the relation between historic knowledge and the archive is varied. Through a historiographical analysis this essay presents a case in which the historian Michel de Certeau establishes a completely new approach to the archive and to that which it guards, sources. Alterity moves alongside the historian; it resists like a specter that cannot be seen, but haunts us. The social configuration of our present demands we understand the origin or causes that have cornered diverse peoples into conditions of transit, of passage and non-passage, of exile and forced displacement. What kind of work must be done through the archive when the historian seeks to re-establish the memory of certain alterities, that in the past left their imprint and today still leave traces of their specific conditions?.

Keywords : archive; alterity; other; event.
