Abstract

ESPINOZA MELENDEZ, Pedro. Texts, Deconstruction, Specters, Hospitality. Notes on Jaques Derrida and the Writing of History. Hist. graf [online]. 2022, n.59, pp.15-57.  Epub July 27, 2022. ISSN 1405-0927.  https://doi.org/10.48102/hyg.vi59.392.

My purpose with this essay is to link some approaches from Jacques Derrida with historical writing, focusing my attention in four historiographical problems: textuality, deconstruction, specters, and hospitality, which are related with three authors who have become theoretical references of cultural history: Francois Hartog, Joan W Scott, and Michel de Certeau. I also propose that, just like hermeneutics has a Christian origin, deconstruction has an affinity with the Talmudic Jewish tradition. These elements have opened possibilities for the historical discipline, calling for special attention to language, writing, absences, and otherness.

Keywords : Jacques Derrida; Historiography; Writing; Francois Hartog; Joan W. Scott, Michel de Certeau.
