Abstract

SOARES, Fabrício Antônio Antunes  and  LIMA, Pâmela Cristina de. From the Heroic farrapos to the Themes of Formation: the Instituto Histórico e Geográfico do Rio Grande do Sul and Aspects of the Writing of History.Translated byLuís Gómez. Hist. graf [online]. 2022, n.59, pp.269-289.  Epub July 27, 2022. ISSN 1405-0927.  https://doi.org/10.48102/hyg.vi59.403.

This article explores the historiography of two historians linked to the IHGRGS , at different times of the institution’s existence. Docca, acting as one of the founding partners, and Vellinho, writing at a decisive moment of the Institute. Both of them played a role in the project of writing an official history that aimed to incorporate Rio Grande do Sul into the national whole, territorially as well as culturally. Our goal is to understand how, even writing at different times, and with emphasis on different themes, both authors maintain the lusitanist bias defended by the IHGRGS in their writing of history.

Keywords : history of historiography; intellectual history; theory of history; Farroupilha.
