Abstract
HERNANDEZ SALAZAR, Javier. Communication as an Educational Component for the Peasant in Popular Cultural Action (ACPO), Colombia 1954-1974. Hist. graf [online]. 2023, n.60, pp.345-382. Epub Feb 13, 2023. ISSN 1405-0927. https://doi.org/10.48102/hyg.vi60.430.
This article analyzes how Popular Cultural Action (ACPO) applied communication to develop remote education strategies aimed at the rural adult population of a small municipality in Boyacá, and its national impact between 1954 and 1974, a topic that integrates the doctoral thesis “Education and mentalities of peasant leaders with the institutes of Popular Cultural Action (ACPO): 1954-1974”. Likewise, the article shows how the radio, press, records, cinema and television, among others, were adapted for the education of adult peasants. On the other hand, the issues that ACPO determined as the foundation of its educational project, focused mainly on the dignity of the peasant, are highlighted. The investigation is developed from the historical method, in order to study how communication was fundamental in the educational proposal of ACPO, transforming the mentality and life of the peasants who participated.
For a deeper level of comprehension, the ideology and educational proposal of Father José Joaquín Salcedo Guarín will be taken into account, exploring the initiatives of the Social Action Church program in Boyacá, and the creation of programs such as the EFI-Comprehensive Fundamental Education-aimed at fostering the education and social development of the peasant.
