Abstract

ALCANIZ MOSCARDO, Mercedes. El desarrollo local en el contexto de la globalización. Convergencia [online]. 2008, vol.15, n.47, pp.285-315. ISSN 2448-5799.

The main objective of this article is to expound the links between the globalisation process - the present and multidimensional characterisation of the capitalist system expansion worldwide - and local development. The latter is a perspective that emerged in the 80s of the 20th Century as a response to the inadequacies of the macroeconomic policies of development with a view to solving the problems related with job creation and improved social welfare from local and regional domains of development planning. To this end, agents, sectors and powers that interact within the limits of a given territory are involved. Without losing sight of the global perspective, even though it may seem contradictory, local development in the era of globalisation is considered a fundamental tool to achieve a more human, sustainable development with equity that lasts and is based on a given territory.

Keywords : Globalisation; development; human development; local development; new sources of employment.
