Abstract

In XVII century Cuba, land, work and mili instalIations were considered the most important productive elements on the ingenio. This was particularly relevant in the case of the land, mainly because its fertility depended on its production. The study shows the physical and organizational characteristics of the ingenio. It explains the elimination of fue stock land in order to convert it into sugar production estates. It also analyzes fue speculation, prices, selling, buying, renting and taxes levied on fuese lands. It tries to elucidate iffue sugar estate was self-sufficient.
