Abstract
PINA, Delia M. and RAMIREZ, Ana L.. Legal framework and regional commercial dynamics in a border zone: the customs between Sonora and Arizona during the Porfiriato. Am. Lat. Hist. Econ [online]. 2020, vol.27, n.3, e1064. Epub Dec 22, 2020. ISSN 2007-3496. https://doi.org/10.18232/alhe.1064.
The institutionalization process of border between Sonora and Arizona is resumed in this article, based on some policies to regulate foreign trade implemented during the regime of Mexican president Porfirio Díaz. Our hypothesis indicates that the modifications to customs house system affected the commercial relations in this border zone, without the cross-border commercial activity was carried out in a legal manner. The article aims to show the process of shaping the border in its institutional character and the consequences that the new control of cross-border trade had at the local level. For this purpose, documentary sources such as Memorias of Dirección General de Aduanas, from Secretaría de Hacienda, as well as cases of contraband and customs reports, were reviewed to make a contrast with bibliography about subject.
