Abstract
HERNANDEZ-RAMIREZ, U. et al. Local perception of the situation, environmental and economic Uses of toronjil (Lamiaceae) in three communities of the state oF Guerrero, México. Polibotánica [online]. 2022, n.54, pp.257-269. Epub Sep 12, 2022. ISSN 1405-2768. https://doi.org/10.18387/polibotanica.54.16.
The use, exploitation and situation of three types of torojil belonging to the Lamiaceae family are described; Clinopodium mexicanum, Satureja mexicanun and Agastache mexicana subsp. mexicana, distributed in different municipalities of the state of Guerrero, Mexico, through the empirical knowledge of local inhabitants. To obtain the information, a semi-structured interview was applied, a simple random result without replacement and key informant interviews were obtained. In the three communities of, the uses of lemon balm are varied and infusions are made for its consumption, the inhabitants describe the medicinal, artisanal and ornamental use. Likewise, in the three study sites, a lack of knowledge of the seed was demonstrated (Amojileca 95%, Tlacotepec 97% and Agua de Panteón de Corralitos 87%), which suggests that there is a lack of interest in its propagation; This coincides with what was mentioned by the authorities, who comment that they have not taken measures focused on conservation. Due to the overexploitation of lemon balm and its extraction from the field (Amojileca 63%, Agua de Panteón de Corralitos 100% and Tlacotepec 88%), their populations have been declining in the last 10 years, according to the perception of local inhabitants. This problem could be caused by looting, deforestation, forest fires, the extension of the agricultural frontier, atmospheric overheating, so that in the future it could become extinct. Therefore, it is important to carry out multidisciplinary studies focused on the reproduction and conservation of these valuable species.
