Abstract

SILVA-AGUAYO, Gonzalo et al. Evaluation of boldus (Peumus boldus Molina) and lime for Sitophilus zeamais Motschulsky control. Agrociencia [online]. 2006, vol.40, n.2, pp.219-228. ISSN 2521-9766.

The toxicity of Peumus boldus Molina powder with and without lime was evaluated against Sitophilus zeamais in the laboratory and storage room. Under laboratory conditions, the toxicity was evaluated, recording adult insect mortality and emergence as well as grain weight loss. Under storage room conditions, grain weight loss and the number of living and dead insects were recorded for a six-month period. A completely randomized experimental design was used. In the laboratory, the mixtures causing the highest toxicity were 50:50 at 1% (w/w) and 40:60 at 2% (w/w), with mortality values over 97%. In the storage room, all treatments of P. boldus mixtures with lime exhibited high effectiveness, but they showed no differences (p>0.05) compared to a malathion treatment.
