Abstract

GALINDO-GONZALEZ, Guillermo  and  ZANDATE-HERNANDEZ, Román. INIFAP furrow diking and its adoption in nine municipalities in Zacatecas, México. Agrociencia [online]. 2007, vol.41, n.2, pp.231-239. ISSN 2521-9766.

In 1988, the Instituto Nacional de Investigaciones Forestales, Agrícolas y Pecuarias (INIFAP), generated an agricultural implement of mechanical traction, that raises small dikes in the rows at regular intervals to capture rain water, which represents a technological option for increasing grain and forage production in arid and semiarid regions. After 16 years, the degree of adoption of this implement has not been determined in the central region of Zacatecas. Therefore, the present descriptive study was conducted in the last trimester of 2004 to determine the degree of adoption of the implement. To obtain the data, a questionnaire was designed, tested and applied to a sample comprised of 96 units, randomly selected from a population of 20 666 producers. It was determined that 33.33% of the growers interviewed have the abovementioned implement and use it; 54.17% do not use it, but are aware of its existence, and the remaining 12.5% are unaware of its existence. The principal factor that influenced the adoption of the implement was the Alianza Contigo, an agricultural and rural development program implemented by the Federal Government.
