Abstract

MARQUEZ-SANCHEZ, Fidel. Basic equation for the calculation of inbreeding of a random progeny without selfing, in a partially selfed maize line. Agrociencia [online]. 2007, vol.41, n.5, pp.521-525. ISSN 2521-9766.

In the reproduction of partially selfed lines, with few selfings, it is not rare to hear that the resulting plants will have an increase in their inbreeding, but the magnitude of the increment is not mentioned. In this paper, it is shown how inbreeding of a line with any level of selfing does not change if the method of reproduction does not include selfing. In fact, there is a basic equation for inbreeding of a population of any number of plants under reproduction; even with fractional or negative numbers the postulate is valid.

Keywords : Zea mays L.; selfing; coancestry; inbreeding.
