Abstract

PAZ-PELLAT, Fernando et al. A simple method for estimating geometrical and optical properties of vegetation. Agrociencia [online]. 2009, vol.43, n.4, pp.417-425. ISSN 2521-9766.

Determining geometric and optical properties of vegetation leaves is a tedious process that requires specialized equipment. The development of an alternative, fast, and low-cost alternative would facilitate the use of this information in routine applications of radiative transfer in vegetation. This paper presents a simple method for estimating vegetation geometric and optical properties, using the concept of attractor of growth dynamics in transformed spectral spaces. With the estimated attractors, infinite reflectances, it is possible to estimate leaf albedo by standardizing zenith angle of illumination at 57°, and with this value, the coefficients of extinction and angular properties of the leaves. The methodology proposed serves as the basis for developing a one-time measurement strategy, equivalent to multi-temporal measurements.

Keywords : Attractor; growth dynamics; transformed spectral spaces.
