Abstract

ZAPATA-SIERRA, Antonio  and  MANZANO-AGUGLIARO, Francisco. Application of kinematic wave theory to the study of hydrographs generated through a rain simulator on permeable soils. Agrociencia [online]. 2010, vol.44, n.8, pp.873-884. ISSN 2521-9766.

For the study of the hydrographs generated by a rainfall simulator and when the soil has a high infiltration capacity the Singh's original method does not work properly. For this reason, a method based on the superposition of partial solutions generated from the kinematic wave theory is proposed to obtain a combined hydrograph. In this study, a rainfall simulator was built where there were 16 runoff trials on a permeable soil. By comparing the obtained results between the original and the proposed method, it was shown that the kinematic wave methodology can be applied with good results to generate the response to rainfall in this type of systems. It was also shown the influence of rainfall intensity water movement over the ground and an update of the parameters of the original Chow's equation is proposed.

Keywords : infiltration; runoff; friction factor.
