A report is given of the results of research on technical secondary schools. The study’s objective is to address the meaning and function of training, and in particular, the importance of such training for young people from poor economic sectors. The project is based on ten case studies at secondary schools in five of the nation’s entities. The results show the schools’ precarious situation, low positioning and neglect of technologies-leading to doubts regarding the degree technical secondary schools currently provide job training. Nonetheless, based on the replacement of some practices, the conclusions point to the importance of technical secondary schools in impoverished urban and rural contexts, where such schools can respond to the problems of young people from vulnerable sectors. A case is made for supporting this type of schools and for providing them with the necessary attention.
