Abstract

ORTEGA, Rosario et al. Violencia escolar en Nicaragua. Un estudio descriptivo en escuelas de primaria. RMIE [online]. 2005, vol.10, n.26, pp.787-804. ISSN 1405-6666.

Studies on school violence in European countries have been quite prolific in the past thirty years, and have contributed a large amount of information on the frequency and nature of violence. Few studies, however, have been carried out in the context of Central America, where research has focused more on citizens' insecurity, and concretely, on gangs. The work we present here attempts to make an initial contribution to the study of school violence in the context of Nicaragua. Based on self-administered questionnaires filled out by a representative sample of elementary students, the results show an important presence of diverse forms of school violence, as well as relevant differences as a function of gender.

Keywords : School violence; gender; sexual abuse; elementary education; Nicaragua.
