This article presents the preliminary results of the research study, "Victimization at School", carried out in 2003 in five Brazilian state capitals: Belem, Salvador, Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paolo and Porto Alegre, as well as the federal district. The study's objective was to analyze the different types of school violence, particularly violations and crimes, and their consequences for students, teachers, directors and the other members of the pedagogical team. The accounts of these actors revealed concrete episodes of violence as well as perceptions of the phenomenon, and describe a broad panorama of school violence.
