Abstract

REYES JUAREZ, Alejandro. La escuela secundaria como espacio de construcción de identidades juveniles. RMIE [online]. 2009, vol.14, n.40, pp.147-174. ISSN 1405-6666.

This article presents the principal results of a study centered on secondary school students as adolescents and on their processes of constructing an identity. Consideration is given to the role played by schools in these processes. The article begins by defining secondary schools as places for adolescent life, where the scholastic experience allows students to show and construct themselves as young people. Some of the meanings they attach to school are identified, and an analysis is made of the processes of redefinition and the acquisition of new meaning that adolescents experience while they are in secondary school.

Keywords : secondary education; identity; adolescents; students; qualitative research; Mexico.
