Abstract

SANTIZO RODALL, Claudia. Governance and Social Participation in Public School. RMIE [online]. 2011, vol.16, n.50, pp.751-773. ISSN 1405-6666.

The policy of social participation means including parents in decision-making at school, with the objective of improving educational achievement. The process implies modifying school organization in order to create new forms of coordination and collaboration among actors. The current article analyzes such a change with a focus on governance. Mention is made of pending items in the institutional design of policies of social participation; these items must be resolved by the Policy Network, which encompasses the entire educational sector. The article concludes that the construction of parental commitment to school governance can be based on school planning that considers students' individual situations.

Keywords : basic education; social participation; school management; family-school relationship; Mexico.
