Abstract

JOIKO, Sara. The Policy of Equality and the New Voucher System in Chile: Critical Reflections. RMIE [online]. 2011, vol.16, n.50, pp.829-852. ISSN 1405-6666.

The objective of this article is to analyze the Chilean system of educational subvention and its design as policy, by using certain concepts from the economics of education. A presentation is given of the new voucher program from 2008, the Preferential School Subvention (SEP). The program attempts to contribute additional resources and correct deficiencies in the traditional system of school subvention, focusing on schools that serve vulnerable students to the benefit of equal education. The conclusion is that the policy is positive because it aims at equality in the system and promotes the rendering of accounts, in spite of the existence of pending topics such as the definition of the voucher amount to be delivered.

Keywords : educational system; educational policy; economics of education; educational finance; equal education; Chile.
