Abstract

ARAMBURO VIZCARRA, Vicente  and  LUNA SERRANO, Edna. The Influence of Theacher and Course Characteristics on the Evaluation of Teaching. RMIE [online]. 2013, vol.18, n.58, pp.949-968. ISSN 1405-6666.

The purpose of this study was to compare the relationship between faculty evaluations by students and the variables related to teacher and course characteristics in two areas of knowledge. The sample consisted of 1,562 courses taught by 382 teachers, who were evaluated 44,599 times by students during four terms at a public Mexican university. Relational, comparative, and descriptive statistical analyses were completed to identify the variables' relation to teacher effectiveness. The results show that a teacher's experience and educational level, the area of knowledge, and group size, are the variables that explain teacher competence to the greatest degree.

Keywords : faculty evaluation; quality of education; higher education; Mexico.
