Abstract

MIGNOT, Ana Chrystina  and  SILVA, Alexandra Lima da. An Imaginary World: Autobiographical Traces in the Writing of Kaurin. RMIE [online]. 2015, vol.20, n.64, pp.153-169. ISSN 1405-6666.

This article is centered on the interpretation of autobiographical traces in Kaurin, short books written by Edgar Sussekind de Mendonca in his childhood. Although the work is not entirely autobiographical -with the inclusion of letters, diaries, and calendars- the author reveals information about himself by creating a fictitious world. The research focuses on form as well as content, in an attempt to interpret the signs of family and school, as well as his reading; thus a dialogue is started with the historiography of education, books, and reading, as well as a historiography of written culture, particularly with regard to children's writing that is not restricted to schoolwork. The analysis of these texts permits an understanding of writing as a refuge, where creating an imaginary world could be a form of facing life's obstacles; in other words, a world not separate from the "real" world, and with touches of humor, creativity, and wisdom.

Keywords : autobiography; writing; childhood; family; reading; Brazil.
