Abstract

BLOCK, David; RAMIREZ, Margarita  and  RESENDIZ, Laura. Personalized Assistance as a Resource for Teaching Mathematics in a Multigrade Classroom: A Case Study. RMIE [online]. 2015, vol.20, n.66, pp.711-735. ISSN 1405-6666.

This article is part of a project that seeks to explain the conditions of teaching and learning mathematics in multigrade elementary schools. Based on studies of teaching mathematics and the contributions of ethnographic research, the article analyzes the process of managing six classes in which a teacher, experienced in one-room schools, mobilizes organizational and teaching strategies to meet simultaneously the requirements of students from the first to sixth grades. Considering the multiple interactions recorded, we decided to use this article to underline the conditions, content, and implications of the assistance, whether provided by the teacher or students, that influences the study of mathematics in the classroom.

Keywords : mathematics teaching; rural schools; teaching strategies; México.
