Abstract

MARTINEZ PINEDA, Idunaxhíi. School Time and Space in the Elementary Schools of Juchitán, Oaxaca, 1880-1910. RMIE [online]. 2016, vol.21, n.70, pp.951-974. ISSN 1405-6666.

The objective of this article is to comprehend the way school time and space collaborated in the construction of school culture in the elementary schools of Juchitán, Oaxaca in the period from 1880 to 1910. With the aid of documentary research, it was possible to discover and explain the way the conception and distribution of time and the representation and use of school space, in combination with social, political, and cultural events, formed part of the educational system. A description is given of the school-community relationship as a historical process that permitted understanding the school system as a dynamic, mutable, and unique organization.
